Win64-based Supervisor notes

Supervisor support for installations on PCs running a 64-bit Windows operating system is typical. The primary application for a 64-bit installation is for installations with large NiagaraNetwork (a job with a large numbers of controllers, each with many proxy points), and thus, a large station database. This topic applies to installations of Niagara 4.8 and earlier. Installations running Niagara 4.9 and later require 64–bit computers and run only a 64–bit version of Niagara.

In particular, the 64-bit Java VM (Virtual Machine) does not have a 2 GB memory limit, unlike the Java VM on a Win32-based Supervisor. Typically, any PC with 64-bit Windows also has 4 GB or more of RAM installed, and, unlike a 32-bit Windows PC, the 64-bit OS can effectively utilize all of it. Therefore, if you are using Niagara 4.7 or earlier, a 64-bit Windows host may be the solution for the largest enterprise level Supervisor.
