Security commissioning notes

When using Workbench, the default Open Platform and Open Station operations assume secure platform and station connections (Foxs and https). This is intended to help encourage TLS usage for all Niagara 4 platforms and stations. If necessary, you can change either connection type, and Workbench the system remembers the security type to use on your next connection.

Any new controller requires an insecure platform connection for initial access. However, once it is converted to an N4 controller, TLS platform connections are always supported. This even applies if, at some future point, an N4 clean distribution file is installed.

In Niagara 4, any use of the term “SSL” always refers to the TLS (Transport Layer Security) protocol, supporting TLS versions 1.0, 1.1. and 1.2. See the Niagara Station Security Guide for complete details on related secure communication tasks and concepts.
