Platform users change notes

These notes apply to changing a password to access a remote platform.
  • Changing the password required to access any platform requires that you enter the current password, then enter the new password (twice) in the popup window. A strong password is required.

NOTE: In Niagara 4.6 and later, if the Workbench FIPS Option to Show FIPS Options is set to “true” certain FIPS options become visible in this window. If selected, FIPS-strength password requirements are enforced.

If you enter an incorrect current password, an Invalid login credentials error popup opens. After clicking OK you return back to the change password window above.

  • If you are changing your password (used in your current platform session), your new credentials become immediately effective upon clicking OK. If you previously had Remember these credentials, selected in the Authentication login window, the cached credentials are automatically updated.

Other notes on changes to platform users are as follows:

  • Any platform user can delete any other platform user except:
    • The user active in the current platform session
    • The original platform user, meaning the one created in the Remove platform default user account step when using the Commissioning Wizard to commission the controller. Such users cannot be selected to delete.
NOTE: In Niagara 4.4 and later, Workbench enforces the requirement to change the platform default system passphrase, add a new platform account, and remove the default platform account. If Workbench detects either of the following conditions when making a platform connection it launches the Change Platform Defaults Wizard which steps you through the required changes prior to completing the platform connection:
  • The system passphrase of the remote platform is the default value.
  • The platform credentials of the remote platform are factory default values.
The requirements to change default credentials are configurable via the Platform Connections options under Workbench Tools > Options. For details see “Platform Connections options” in Getting Started with Niagara.
