Windows-based platforms

Windows-based platforms in Niagara 4 include Windows-based Supervisor PC hosts and/or engineering workstations.
NOTE: All controllers that can run Niagara 4 use the QNX operating system. Prior Windows-based controllers that run Windows XP Embedded are not supported.

File storage on Windows-based Supervisor platforms is typically a hard drive. The PC should be running a recent version of Windows.

Most platforms use a 64-bit Windows OS (Win64-based). Although a Win64 Supervisor uses a 64-bit JVM (Java Virtual Machine) and different NRE core binaries, its platform interface is nearly identical to any Win32-based Supervisor (for sites using iagara 4.8 Niagara 4.8 and earlier). Both are indicated when this document mentions a Windows-based host in various discussions, unless particularly noted.

For any Windows-based platform, a Supervisor’s Platform Administration view differs from a controller’s Platform Administration view.

NOTE: When connected to any Windows host, the TCP/IP Configuration platform view is always read-only. Intended configuration use is for controllers only. On any Windows host, you configure TCP/IP and other network settings using the normal Windows Control Panel interface.
