Update the system passphrase

To change the system passphrase on the Niagara 4 platform use either the Commissioning Wizard or the Platform Administration view as described here.

In the Platform Administration view, when you click System Password for any Niagara 4 platform, the window below opens.

A strong password is required (must match in both password fields). The characters you enter are obscured.

Password rules are the same as for platform users, using a minimum of 10 characters, with:

  • At least one UPPER CASE character.
  • At least one lower case character.
  • At least one digit (numeral).

An error popup reminds you if you attempt to enter a password that does not meet minimum rules.

NOTE: In Niagara 4.6 and later, if the Workbench FIPS Option to Show FIPS Options is set to “true” certain FIPS options become visible in this window. If selected, FIPS-strength password requirements are enforced.
CAUTION: It is important to remember the system password and keep it safe. If you lose the system passphrase, you will lose access to encrypted data.

Change platform defaults

NOTE: In Niagara 4.4 and later, Workbench enforces the requirement to change the platform default system passphrase, add a new platform account, and remove the default platform account. If Workbench detects either of the following conditions when making a platform connection it launches the Change Platform Defaults Wizard which steps you through the required changes prior to completing the platform connection:
  • The system passphrase of the remote platform is the default value.
  • The platform credentials of the remote platform are factory default values.
The requirements to change default credentials are configurable via the Platform Connections options under Workbench Tools > Options. For details see “Platform Connections options” in Getting Started with Niagara.
